dated someone for 8 months before realising they'd never once asked me a single question about myself

Not one. I started keeping track after I noticed. Every conversation was about them, their work, their stories, their problems. I was audience and emotional support. I had opinions, interests, a whole life. Just never asked about.

be honest. overreacting?

this is a real thing and it's wild how long you can miss it when you're in it

8 months is a long time to be invisible

the ones who don't ask are the ones who aren't curious about anyone but themselves. it doesn't change.

I've started noticing this in new friendships too. some people are just collectors of listeners.

you weren't in a relationship you were in an audience

someone once asked me 'how are you?' and then interrupted my answer to talk about themselves. that was the last time we spoke.
